Beauty Q&A

Should i wash face more often as i have oily skin?

You need to cleanse , but do not overdo it , if skin is washed so frequently that it squeaks, you have overdone it and stripped the skin protective lipid film. skin is prone to dry out and possible sebum outbreak due to the disequilibrium state. To cleanse it right the key lies with an effective but mild cleanser. which give smooth and rich lather , hydrating skin while dissolving away impurities

Weekends are, by far, my 'splurge' time.  I really look forward toeating out at our favorite restaurants; enjoying time with friends and family, while indulging in some epicurean delights.  That said, eating out at restaurants more often than not can do damage to a healthy diet. This isn't only true for those trying to lose weight, but also for those trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Fact is, even those dishes that 'appear' healthy on the menu, often come with hidden ingredients like butter and oils that can take a seemingly healthy dish and turn it into a calorie and fat intensive meal.

So how can you ensure your choices while eating out are healthy?  Here is a quick guide of foods you should stick with when you navigate the restaurant menu:

1. Salads: Salads can be very healthy...and they can also be devastatingly unhealthy.  Here's how to ensure that they are the healthful meal you are looking for:

BEST:

- Salads with fruit, veggies, beans and lean protein, such as grilled chicken or fish.
- Dressings that are vinaigrette based. Always have the waiter or waitress bring the dressing on the side.  When you get the dressing, use it sparingly.

WORST:

- Salads containing cheese, sour cream, nuts, tortilla chips or strips, croutons, meats, fried chicken or fried fish.  However, if most of the salad doesn't contain these ingredients, there is nothing wrong with asking the waiter/waitress to exclude the ingredient that isn't so healthy.
- Cream or mayo based dressings. (E.g., Ranch, Blue Cheese, Thousand Island, French)

2. Soups: Soups can be a healthy option, but often, they are loaded with butter, oil and highly saturated creams or dairy (cheese).

BEST: Broth or stock based soups that contain fish or chicken, veggies and beans. (E.g., Manhattan Clam Chowder, Gazpacho, Minestrone, Chicken Noodle))
WORST: Those with cream, cheese or milk. (E.g., Bisques, New England Clam Chowder, Broccoli Cheese)

3. Other Appetizers: Appetizers are a great way of eating light.  You can order two appetizers (such as a salad and a protein based appetizer) to keep your portion under control, and get a couple of things you like.  That said, a lot of appetizers are fried or greasy, so beware.

BEST:

- Vegetable based appetizers (E.g., salads, grilled vegetables, veggie spring rolls)
- Those with grilled, boiled or seared lean meats (E.g., Chicken skewers)
- Fish appetizers that are cooked or sushi style (E.g., Shrimp Cocktail, tuna sushi roll)

WORST:

- Those that are fried (E.g., fried shrimp, chicken fingers, dumplings, etc.)
- Those with cheese (E.g., artichoke/spinach dip, cheese fritters, etc.)
- Those that come with chips

4. Side Dishes: Many side dishes are vegetable based, which is great for getting in fiber and needed nutrients.

Potatoes:
BEST: Opt for whole boiled or baked potatoes or sweet potatoes.
WORST: Stay away from mashed or fried potatoes.

Veggies:
BEST: Opt for steamed or grilled veggies.  Be careful though, grilled vegetables can be very oily.
WORST:
- Those mixed with milk, cream or cheese (E.g., creamed spinach, broccoli and cheese)
- Sauteed vegetables.  They are cooked with a lot of oil and if they are cooked too much, they may not be as nutrient dense as their steamed counterparts.

5. Entrees:

Meats, Chicken and Fish:
BEST: Grilled chicken or fish.  Grilled meats are okay if they are very lean.
WORST:
- Breaded Fish or Chicken (E.g., Chicken Francese, Chicken Parmigiana)
- Stuffed Meats (E.g., Chicken Cordon Bleu, Stuffed Lobster)
- Avoid meats and fish that are fried (E.g., Fried Shrimp, Fried Chicken)
- Fatty meats or fatty pork (E.g., sausage)

Pastas:
BEST:
- Those with tomato or broth based sauces (E.g., marinara, puttanesca, olive oil and garlic)
- Those with vegetables and grilled or lightly sauteed chicken or fish

WORST: Those with cream, cheese or meat based sauces (E.g., a la vodka, pesto, alfredo, bolognese)

What do you eat when you go out to stay healthy?  Do you have an automatic go-to

Retin-A is an acne treatment that also removes wrinkles and improves skin appearance and condition

Retin-A, containing tretinoin (sometimes called retinolic acid), derived from vitamin A, can reduce severe wrinkles within only 6-weeks and completely remove fine lines. Indeed, many expensive skin-creams currently on sale boast of their extremely minute quantities of retinolic acid!

Retin-A acts by improving blood supply to the skin, which in-turn increases the turnover of dead skin cells. Accordingly, new more subtle and younger looking skin appears at the surface. An additional use of Retin-A is to speed up the rate of skin repair after cosmetic surgery.

For the New Mom

All new mothers could use some "me" time. Help her kick back with the Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy "Gift of Relaxation" kit, $35. It includes a eucalyptus spearmint scented scrub, lotion, pillow mist and sponge.
Another perfect new-mom kit is the Motherhood Essentials Kit by Belli Skin Care, $38.99. The nursing cream, eye brightening cream, body firming serum and hand sanitizer are all made with baby-safe ingredients and will help her feel back to her "old self."

Wasn't life easier when we could make a construction paper card for mom and call it a gift? Those were the days. But because we're not six anymore, we sadly can't pull that off. That's why I was happy to get these beauty gift suggestions. I'm sick of giving the expected flowers and a card anyway. And I'll be able to buy these online (2 a.m. shopping anyone?) and thanks to the crappy economy, I can pretty much assume I'll get free shipping. Pretty sweet. So, what are you buying your mom or sister (who's a new mom) this year? Have any other ideas for me?

1. Measure your hair's health
Healthy hair is shiny, supple and silky. If none of these adjectives applies to your locks, take a strand test to identify what could be doing the damage: Pull a wet strand from your scalp and stretch it out. Hair should stretch one-fifth of its length without breaking and bounce back. If it breaks, it's lacking moisture.

If the hair keeps stretching, it's lacking protein, probably due to chemical treatments that have weakened the bonds in each strand––like color processes, straightening or perms. The right conditioning treatments can help in both cases.

2. Opt for a cut that has substance as well as style
If your hair takes more than 15 minutes to style and even then seems mis-shapen, you've got the wrong cut. Next time you go to the salon, meet with your stylist before you shampoo to talk about alternatives that will work with your natural texture.

Also: Consider a cut that flatters your face shape. A square jaw will be softened by a loose, layered cut. Bangs (swept to the side if you don't want to get regular trims) complement a longer face, and a center part balances a round face.

3. Find a hue that's you
The golden rule of low-maintenance, low-risk, great-looking color is to go one shade brighter or darker than your normal hue. Then you can keep kicking it up a notch, but you won't be in for any big surprises along the way.

Just be sure that whatever shade you choose contrasts with your skin tone. You'll look washed out and need more makeup if everything matches too well.

Finally, if your dye job goes horribly wrong, ask your colorist to fix it. Most salons will grant you a grace period of a week or two to request a free redo.

DARK CIRCLES
lack of sleep ? See to much computer or TV ???

i got a treatment

Although to date, there has been no end-all to curing or reducing dark circles, there are many home-made ingredients that can help make the dark circles less visible. For example it is said that putting teabags under the eyes, drinking plenty of fluids and a lot of rest can suffice. Make-up can be used to change the coloration of any exposed skin. ..

i will talk about dark circles ,, when my dark circles is gone...
